Sea buckthorn has very grey/green leaves, whereas pyracantha is dark green. Buckthorn is beautiful (but invasive in some spots apparently), and grows near me on the coast in East Lothian. Some good pictures here: Sea Buckthorn – Identification, Edibility, Distribution – Galloway Wild Foods
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

I'm sure it is buckthorn as the leaves look the right shape and colour plus the berries are the right colour of orange.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

              ^^^^ I agree.

If you still doubt, then check how much sun the plant gets. Sea buckthorn is totally intolerant of shade, seedlings will not grow and the plant will die if shaded. In fact it's lower branches start to die back as soon as they are overshadowed by the branches above. The fence your plant is against, plus the large trees behind, suggest quite a bit of shade through the day.

              It's firethorn you have.

edit: and if you still doubt, do NOT eat the berries - firethorn is mildly poisonous.

Pyracantha. I have sea buckthorn in my garden and to see it it is an entirely different beast from what you have.
