  • Why are my stored onions sprouting ?

I'm in a bit of a panic as my stored onions are starting to sprout. They are hanging in onions bags in the garage! I cured them for quite a few weeks on the allotment in the shed before moving them to the garage. What could be wrong ?

Depends what sort of onions they are. If they were Autumn planted, about this time last year, then they might just be stretching their legs to start again. In this case, you would need to use them as quickly as possible or freeze them.
Otherwise it could be the garage is too warm and/or damp. Mine are stored in an outbuilding, not particularly cold, tied in bunches and hung on nails see below.
Could the bags they are in be harbouring damp? Are they developing roots as well as if so they are too damp. A picture is always nice to see.
