I've always had erratic germination rates and times when sowing winter spinach, so this year I decided to soak them first.
I tried a few different methods, and the "Soak" time that worked the best for me was for 30 hours at room temperature, I then placed the seeds in a damp kitchen towel in a plastic container and then put in the airing cupboard, checking every 2 days.
I sowed the seeds into compost once they had produced a white root of around 1 - 1.5cm.
Overall the germination rate was about the same as when sowed direct in compost but this way I only sowed the seeds that actually germinated.
