Elephant garlic bulblets

I have a healthy crop of elephant garlic bulblets.
Question is when do i plant them autumn or spring and how long would they take to mature given average growing condition and bearing in mind i grow all my garlic in pots due to rampant white rot.

I always plant my elephant garlic at the same time as my normal garlic...just did them all last Saturday actually

Yep I put my two in last week.
The only two I had were what I had grown last year. They were round but not much bigger than the original cloves I put n.


It will be interesting to see what they turn out like in 2019.

Are you talking about the cloves or the little bulbils that grow at the bottom of the main bulb.?

Those little bulbils ate the plants last stab at immortality and can stay dormant for a year or two before growing.

When they do grow it takes a couple of years before the form a head and start splitting. At first they form rounds - heads with no divisions (these are marketed as Garlic Solo). When these rounds are planted they form large heads with coves as it you had grown from a clove but often larger.
