Planning is going on apace over here, though I've given up committing my ideas to paper for now. But I know how much space to give over to what. And I've been through the cucurbits, brassicas and alliums and only thrown out one and a half packets of seed. So that's good news. Got the potatoes sorted (growing a lot fewer than in previous years).

Thinking about roots now (which in my plan includes beetroot). Have decided against celeriac - sounds like it needs more water than I'm prepared to give it. Have rather a lot of carrot seeds I don't want to chuck out if I can help it. Have come across a website that talks about chitting carrot seed. Never done that. Unlikely to successfully get chitted carrot seed to grow into a straight carrot but at least it would give me an idea of viability. Does anyone else chit carrot seed?

After that, it's the ones I don't worry about rotating strictly (sweetcorn and legumes). And then I'm pretty well sorted. And then it's time to get the fencing up, beds sorted, irrigation in, cold frames made...

      Hi Snoop.
What I read was to put a number of seed on wet kitchen towel and see what sprouts that should give you half an idea on viability and germination percentage with the remaining seeds.

Thanks, mcdood. I've been looking around for info and came across the same advice. Looks like a go-er of an idea.

Snoop in reference to an other thread you posted on with regards to cabbage, when I had club root in my garden if I planted well before June the plants were well established before the club root became a problem I harvested good cabbage, don't know what month that club root will become active where you are but if you can find out you can plan accordingly and take the worry of getting club root away
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Why do people start threads, ask questions then disappear? The OP hasn't been on the Forum since he started this thread 2 weeks ago. I wonder why?

Ref club root. Sow in modules.. once a decent size , then dig a decent sized hole and line with dusting of lime. Fill hole with compost, stick your seedling in. Gives it a mini environment to establish roots before it gets club which it will. Worked for me this year.

Thanks for the advice, rary and mcdood. So far, no problems. Just don't want them to develop because I'm rotating only every three years. Anyway, I'll bear the advice in mind if it does happen.

He us possibly writing a book and thought this would be a good place for information, but I would bet he didn't know about tangentisation

I think "he" may have come across tangentisation on this forum before - many times.
