BFB is a longer acting fertiliser - I give a dressing at the planing time and another one in spring.

I'd also use a liquid feed diluted down - something with reasonable nitrogen and potassium levels would be good (I use comfrey concentrate) as it's quicker for the plant to take up. Other fertilisers would also work as long as they aren't too strong.

Liquid seaweeds also a good fertiliser very low nitrogen & potassium & you can get it all over the leaves when the suns gone down like a foliar feed.
