Nigel's outdoors
Chilli Pepper Vegetable Seeds to buy in the UK from The Real Seed Catalogue
There's lots of people who do grow outside though, I think crops are just smaller.
A sheltered patio is ideal, if they are grown against a sunny wall they usually do well.
I would avoid long maturing peppers and try cayennes/ jalepeanos etc.

I grew several types outdoors last year, but then the weather was exceptionally good.
In the horrible cold, wet summer before that, I grew a variety from Sea Spring Seeds called 'Super Tramp', which was advertised as being good for outdoor growing - and it was!
In general, plants with smaller growth-habits and smaller fruits would probably be good, and give you a higher likelihood of ripening before the end of the season.
I agree re: cayenne and jalapeno - they do brilliantly outside for me.

I grew nearly all of mine outdoors last year (up in the Pennines) but it was an exceptional summer. In my experience annuums, baccatums (e.g. lemon drop) and rocotos are ok outdoors but chinenses (the hot ones) struggle a bit (although mine did OK last year.) Rocotos and some baccatums need an early start, though, as they can take months to ripen even after setting fruit. I'm only just sowing mine now and I worry it might be too late to get a good crop unless we have a warm sunny autumn. I'm still sowing lots of baccatums though.
Chenzo (which is either an annuum or frutescens, I can't remember which) did particularly well for me over the last two years and it's a very attractive plant, but it's an F1 hybrid so you can't save your own seeds, which is annoying.

Grew padrons and a jalapeno on windowsills indoors last year so the best seeds are free saved seed from the best plants

Scarlet and anyone else who's grown both: do you think they are different, or are they basically the same? (Lemon Drop and Aji Pineapple, that is.)Last edited by Mitzi; 04-02-2019, 04:46 PM.
