Sugar rush peach ( if I could only grow one chilli it'd probably be this one ) ( ridiculous notion only growing one chilli )

          • It's been a bad year for aphids here so far, but the cavalry has arrived. Today on my squishing mission, I found several ladybird larvae munching on the green buggers, and a couple of parasitised aphids which look ready to hatch new wasps.

            • I got seven plants out into my neighbour’s greenhouse on Saturday. All superhots. Hope they do ok.

              • I've just put the mystery-potentially-goats-weed-chilli into its final pot. Need to pinch a load more leaf mould from a friend before I can get going with the other 35

                • Got finished at work a little earlier than expected!

Sifted through the Chillies and segregated the ones I want to isolate and save seed from now they are just coming in bud!

                  • Decided to top my Thai dragon chilli today as an experiment- leaving the others untouched.

                    • Made a semi hydroponic / chilli grow / bigger version of an inverted pop bottle type thing.
For a couple of my latest arrivals ( thanks Mitzi ). Hoping they start playing catchup in their.

A pink habanero, just magical appeared from nowhere. It's so exciting

                        • My first Dorset Naga pod has set - exciting stuff! The plant is still quite small because it's been restricted to a small pot but now it's in an 8x8" square pot (about 6l?) still on the windowsill. It will eventually be going in a 20l pot in the neighbour's greenhouse.

What are you hoping to achieve? In the "before" picture, it is already forming side shoots from the lower leaf nodes, and has forked at the top, so I think it would bush out naturally if you just left it. Admittedly I've topped one of my plants because it had hit the top of the window frame with no sign of forking or flowering and no side shoots either. I'd have left yours to do its own thing, though.

I see you have others that you left untopped - so I guess it will be really interesting to see the contrast between those and this one. OK, I take it back - it's definitely worth doing as an experiment to compare the growth and productivity of the topped and untopped plants.

                            Keep us informed, please!

                            • Haha! Yeah it was getting too tall and in the way on the kitchen windowsill, and it was so tall the sun was getting blocked by the window frame on the fan light, so needed to be controlled.

That and the curiosity. Everyone on forums that seem US focused (such as Reddit) where I guess they get a sunnier growing season, unanimously agree topping is worth doing.

I guess the aim is bushier, stronger plant with more chillies, all the while not being too unwieldy.

I have 6 others I've left to do their thing, I took the risk

                              • My chillies in the GHare looking great after the last couple of weeks of warm weather. It's been grey and cloudy today though.

This is my pink hab from SP - last years seedling swap looking fab.
