I’m quite happy for a game of Russian roulette with my food. But it’s not everyone’s idea of fun.
Never grown it but my padrons this year were all pretty Spicey....think I may have left them a bit long.

I always leave my Padron to ripen. I don’t like them green. I seem to be a bit odd

I’ve also made the executive decision of keeping farmers market jalapeño, but apple crisp is out.

Same here. Leave them to get too big and they seem to start getting a decent bit of heat.

        • Are you both growing pimientos de padron ? Or another type? Is there another type?
I’ve not actually tried one of mine this year but I’ve made a batch of sauce with them and heat leaves were as normal.

I very rarely try fresh chillies , especially ones that I grow regularly. I really don’t like chillies on there own. Although sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by the flavour. This years surprises were Havana gold, really lovely flavour and very little heat, the other one was AJI strawberry again great flavour before the heat kicks in. But that one is still off my grow list, just takes far to long to ripen.

What colour are your Aji Strawberries? I left mine on the plant for several weeks after turning colour and they stayed resolutely orange, not strawberry at all.

I've also been pleasantly surprised by Havana Gold although I found it has enough heat for me when eaten raw; not so much when cooking with it.

I’ll take photo of my AJI strawberry tomorrow. I’d say red rather then orange but not a vibration red, if that makes sense.

              • Havana Gold was on my list this year but ended up been given away or disappearing, can't remember which
Have to try it next year based on the feedback.

Most of my Padron were hot too this year for some reason.

They were left on the plant for longer than usual given that the original label in the pot said Sweet California
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Wow that’s weird! I got the seeds from philthy. Do you think it’s still not a stable variety? That must be frustrating as he11 ! You’ve had a lot not come true this year. I’ve had a couple as well, I find it infuriating.

                          • Got ripe (well red} chillies - pick now or as needed?

Should I pick them as they come ripe and store (in fridge?) or leave them on the plant until they are needed in the kitchen?
I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."

Really up to yourself....I generally pick a few and use up and leave others on the plant out of the way..worst case they start to dry out on the plant but they will do that in the fridge also...
You could pick and freeze some either...

Here’s one of the peach habs you sent me in the plug plant swap. Is it looking like yours ?
