Apple Crisp - very dark photo as the exposure was wrong - but you get the idea.

I've only tried the Fooled You - the others scare me.

That is a huge pile of chillis
I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."

They’re looking good. You’re Trinidad perfume is doing better then mine. I almost have to lay on the tunnel floor to harvest them, it’s such a short squat plant. And it doesn’t excite me as much as I was hoping. You’re not missing much I don’t think. The apple crisp I’ve tried a second one and there was no heat. Just a very juicy almost sweet pepper. Not worth the risk in case you get a hot one.
I can highly recommend you cutting some of the fooled you length ways, scrape out the seeds, fill with cream cheese & chives, put them under the grill for 6-10 minutes.

Unfortunately my harvest is a little below par this year.

At what stage do I collect the seeds for saving? Do I wait until they're really dark red/orange?

Looking at the photo I’d say any of those that are completely ripe/red are ready for seed saving. But if you want to leave a couple on the plant for another week or so, it wouldn’t hurt

              • Thanks SP. They can wait, I'm in no rush to find some rubber gloves.

You shouldn’t need rubber gloves for any of those, VC. I’ve been handling Caramel Moruga, Peach Fatalii and White Bhut Jolokia seeds today. I really wish I had worn gloves. Ouch!

Sadly I don’t think there are enough of any of them for the seed circle. The Caramel Moruga plant fell off the windowsill and two branches laden with unripe pods broke off. They have ripened a bit since then but I don’t think the seeds will be mature enough to be worth saving. I like them to get fully ripe - even over-ripe - on the plant if I’m saving seeds.

                  • I’ve just tried my first monkey face. Holy **** they are hot! Lovely flavour before it takes your head off . Only needed to use half of it in the chilli con carne.

                    • Frost forecast for tonight. Have brought half dozen plants into the kitchen but can’t fit any more. Waiting on so many plants still to ripen. Not looking good. So frustrating.

Where in the country are you Mitzi? South East England we have it down to about 4c overnight, fingers crossed mine will be okay outside, I've brought my faves in though.

                          • I’m up in the Pennines in West Yorkshire. It tends to be a lot colder here than say Wakefield which is only 10 miles away but much lower.

                            • When over wintering chilli plants is it OK to reduce the pot size quite alot? I've 3 I want to keep but they are in 15litre pots. I need all 3 to be able fit on a windowsill so need to give the root ball a pretty big haircut and repot in a pots that are alot smaller. 2-3litre size. Is this just going to kill them?

                              • That is reducing them hugely...I'm not sure it would work as you are going to have to reduce the crown hugely too. You often get die back when doing this but if that's all the room you have it's worth a shot.
