  • Whooot! It's been 8 days since I last saw an aphid, and not for want of trying. I finally think I got rid of them! I've also put on my first propagator full of seeds to germinate, yellow and red rocottos, peach ghosts, white fatalli, orange habaneros, charapita, antep aci dolma and padron. After only six days, the first to get a hook is an antep aci dolma, a spicey bell pepper from Turkey and probably the chilli I'm most excited about this year. Now potted up and sitting under the lights.

Can't see your pictures unfortunately ( it could just be my iPad have another hissy fit)
        You'll do just fine
Best advice I can give is have patients some take a long time to germinate. Depending what your growing.
Other thing as soon as they have come up get them out of the propagator onto a sunny window cill.
Most importantly have fun and let your new found chilli obsession take over

        • I am not sure why the pictures wont work. Ive probably uploaded them wrong. I have tried again however not sure this has worked either. The window they are on gets alot of sun, when its not miserable like today. Thank you, im prepared for a fair bit of waiting but I have enough other bits to keep me busy, although it was difficult trying to explain to a two year old why there were 'no plants in the mud' this morning haha.

          • So I finally got a chance to sow some seeds. Round one is the hot stuff.
I just put them in plastic take out containers on wet paper towel and into the hot press/airing cupboard. I had a lot of success with germination this way last year. I have a propagator but it doesn't work for all seeds. I will transport them into the propagator in peat pellets once they have germinated and then they are guaranteed light and heat. Once they get four leaves then its pot and on to the grow light.

            So round 1
Trinidad Scorpion Peach - Failed to grow last year
Scotch Bonnet Yellow - New this year
Scotch Bonnet Orange - New this year
Scotch Bonnet Red - New this year
Carolina Reaper - Think I got one pod last year
            Fatali - New this year
Chocolate Hab - Not a huge amount of pods last year but nice so trying again
Orange Hab - Loads of pods last year
Peach Hab - Loads of pods last year. Made a lot of sauces and salsa's from this one.
Tabasco - Tried it two years ago. Failed to germinate
Bhut Jalokia Red - Failed to grow last year after germination
Lao - Bought some dried chilles in a market there. Nice thin skinned chillies that are perfect for drying.
Vietnam - Got in a restaurant in Hanoi. Great grower and perfect thin skin for drying and making oil
South Africian - Bought a bag of dried chillies for oil and saved some seeds. Can't remember if I grew any last year. Think it failed to grow once germinated.

Round two will be end of Feb once I get some room and will be for the prolific growers. Cayenne, Jalapeno, Ring of Fire, Hot Thai etc.
I don't think we'll get the weather we got last year so I don't expect a bumper year so will concentrate on quality. Although I have said that before and ended up with 60 full sized plants. :-)

Hi ben, Don't despair!! New members need to have made a number of posts before they can edit their profile or add images. You're probably about there now so keep trying. the other common problem is the image is too large and needs cropping.
Have another try and if you have an error message let us know what it is and we'll help.

I thought you were going to say you're chillies had germinated .

                • I "think" there's some action in the Apple Crisp module but I didn't want to get you too excited by saying anything until I'm certain.

                  • AAAAAArrrrgggghhhhhhhhh! They're back. No more neem oil, I'm busting out the bug clear ultra. See how they like a taste of acetamiprid. Apparantly it gets into the plants and stays there for a couple of weeks, so hopefully that'll finish them off before they get on to the seedlings... of which there is now a couple of peach ghosts, a rocotto red and 4 orange habaneros.

It all works now, thank you. I have to resize the images though but that's no issue. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of them germinated soon. Fingers crossed

Give him/her some pea shoots to plant. My boys loved anything they could pick me

If you use a phone, take the image further away and then chop off the outside bits... works brilliantly for me.

Take them out of the room that has the seedlings. Youwill be gutted if they get over taken by greenfly. Seedlings can't withstand the onslaught like older plants.

I have some success, sooner than anticipated. Shall I start planting into a larger pot? Or should they stay in the prop a bit longer?
