I know but the weather has been clear. Perfect for outside jobs. But I did pop out and get some compost. Currently warming on the kitchen worktop ready for my chillies, will do the early toms at the same time.

My first tomato seeds have germinated.
        3 out of 4 varieties.
        Two seeds of each.
        Tiny Tim.
        Micro Tom.
        Red Robin.
        Still waiting for Balconi Red.
        Now have 6 little plants.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I've sown some Can't believe I've sown these before my chillies!

          3 x Latah
          3 x Mrs Rucks
          3 x Red Siberian

Now the red Siberian I added on a whim, I thought it was a bush. I'm sure I had it from a seed circle but it doesn't say bush/cordon and I've just googled and it looks like it comes in both?

Seasprout sent some Red Siberian to the 2015 Circle. I grew some in 2016 - they weren't a bush but I don't think they were very tall either.
For some reason I don't remember, I decided not to grow them again.

Hmm, I may find something else tomorrow- I was going to do your rambling red stripe but couldn't find them ( patience ran out) I'll do them the same time as my chillies.

My 2 Balconi seeds germinated overnight.
That makes 8 little seedlings under the lights.
Sowed another 4 varieties, two of each.
                    Demidov.
                    Dubrava.

You guys are a bad influence. Resisting the temptation to sow anything yet, as i don't have lights or a propagator. Tempted to start a few though.

Get sowing, Annie. You need somewhere warm (airing cupboard, Boiler?) to start them off and a windowsill to keep them going. I don't use lights.
I have 13 babies and 7 out of 9 varieties germinated. They all came out of the prop once some had germinated.

OK, for 99p for a pack of seeds I’m game. Just ordered a packet of Tiny Tom which I’ll sow when they get here.

Ok so have decided to sow a few tomatoes now. Picked up some seed compost. A few gardeners delight, sungold, Shirley and red cherry. Am going to try some outside tomatoes this year as well as greenhouse. For outside tomatoes what do you do about spacing requirements? According to the packet sungold needs 60cm between which seems weird as the other cherry sized ones say 45cm.

I sowed mine early last year and they germinated brilliant but I struggled with them and they went all spindly. I’m guessing it was because of the low light levels at this time of the year. They were ok in the end but still spindly till they died. Got a below average but earlier crop though.

I’m going to try later this year to compare.

What is the “conventional” time that most people do Toms?

                                Kind Regards.............Rob
