Peas have now been planted next to the hotbin.



The plastic cloche over the cauliflowers has been replaced with netting.



Spinach in the black trough is now big enough to harvest. Some of the carrots have germinated and the potatoes are growing well.



Blueberries are now in full leaf.



Everything looking much greener. The peas are in flower and there are more carrots germinating under the plastic cloche. Cauliflowers under the nets. An overwintered florence fennel needs eating and the calabrese has now finished.

Still not a lot going on. Beds are all ready to go. All the beds will be getting planted up after the cool weekend we're all expecting.

View from the south east corner. Cut flower beds in the foreground: the dahlias are putting on leaf nicely, but the zinnias are sulking. There's some tagetes waiting to be planted out. Beds on the right are charlotte potatoes, salads and a cold frame for things waiting to be planted out, and behind that out of sight is a deeper bed with parsnips in. In the middle ground is the wibbly-wobbly tunnel of wibbly-wobblyness, mentioned in hushed tones wherever bean growers meet to discuss epic disasters. I will be astonished if it lasts the season, but mark II next year will be better. ;-)



From the north west corner, standing where the shed will be. (It WILL be. It WILL. I have faith.) Teh apparently half bare bed has red onions in it, mostly failing to sprout... Beds from right to left: legumes; potatoes; what will be brassicas when I dig it and get the tunnel up; onions and leeks; leftovers and fruit; raspberries up against the hedge.



I'm rather pleased with my builders' bags. Right hand side has an Atlantic Giant pumpkin, a tromboncino and a sunflower. Left has a sunflower, Uchiki Kuri and a Crown Prince.

Strawberries should be ready soon, and the first lot of peas is just starting to flower. The area in front of the peas needs a good weed and will be planted with summer bedding when I get round to it!



Loads of fruit on the white currant, less than I'd hoped for on the apple, and nothing at all on the apricot. The Maybach cauliflowers under the net are showing no sign of producing heads yet, and I need the space for tomatoes...



Potatoes are growing well. Red veined spinach is now bolting. Tomatoes (desperate for planting) and seedlings in the growhouse and carrots under the net. This year's flowers on the clematis are the best I can remember.



More potatoes, strawberries on the shelf and blueberries in the fruit cage. The buckets of compost illustrate the lessening of pressure on space due to having the allotment, but some will eventually be used for winter brassicas.



More cauliflowers under nets that are showing no signs of forming heads. The Meteor peas next to the fence are producing a few early pods. More peas in buckets on the far left, and the fennel is bolting. The minarette apple and pear trees under the arch are starting to grow.

I took these photos 3 days ago on May 31st it looks similar now,I’ve just added a couple more tomato plants,haven’t got my bean poles up yet. Less plants than usual,I lost some tomato plants to the cold & there’s a few things I’m behind with,Ive only just sown carrots & lettuce out there. The peas are alright,they’re resting on sticks I’ve had two meals from them so far. Some of my onions have been trampled on by the pigeons taking my sticks.

Well with all this rain, not much can be done outside.

Whats doing well:

Onions & garlic with vivaldi playing in the background, could do with weeding.


Leeks - just planted out, peas and beans. The fruitcage has gooseberry, red and black currant, cherry, raspberry and tayberry.



maincrop poatoes: Carolus, alouette and harmony(bakers).

and tomatoes in the greenhouse. The small weedy looking plants are peppers. The seed tray at the front has lentils in - a bit doubtful now that they will be planted out.


Not doing at all well are squash and courgette, a complete contrast with last year.

The peas were getting ravaged by pigeons and Lawrence D Hills suggested this wire mesh for support and protection and seems good so far. 50 metres cost £26 and will hopefully last my lifetime with looking after.

Mid June,I mowed the lawn yesterday it looks a bit tidier,this is today in the garden,I need to put the grow tent in the shed & move pots around but planting out is the main thing at the moment,it’s going alright,my lettuce has started growing in the raised bed & rocket & radish in the little trug,a few peaches on the tree,I should feed the potatoes I’ve only done it once,I found five little potatoes for dinner the other day,some were very tiny the Linzer Delikatess,elongated shape but they were lovely with a bit of butter

The first lot of peas are just starting to be big enough to harvest. The strawberries have been producing some ripe fruit.



The white currant bush is laden with fruit which needs harvesting soon. The apple tree looks happier than it has done for a few years, with less aphid damage. 4 Sungold tomato plants are starting to flower. The bedding plants are doing well.



Tomatoes in the growhouse (Shirley and Ferline - the Ferline will go to the allotment soon). 2 rather scruffy balconi red tomato plants that have been on the spare room windowsill. The foliage always looks like this when they have just finished fruiting, but they are covered with new flowers and need potting up. Carrots under the net are growing well and there are 2 calabrese plants in there. The potato plants on the raised beds are huge. The net is on the fruit cage to protect the strawberries.



Another view of potatoes and strawberries. The potato foliage is preventing me from getting into the usual position for this photo and I've had to lean over the carrot cage, hence the slightly odd angle.



Newly planted tomatoes (Sungold and Ferline) have replaced the cauliflowers, but 2 remain under the net. Cucumbers behind are flowering.Carrots under the small net and the peas on the left have been blown over onto the fence, but are doing well in their buckets. Just off picture to the left is a bucket of 4 spring cabbages (Spring Hero) 2 of which have formed nice hearts. The minarette apple tree under the arch is not looking happy, having had a bad attack of aphids, but the pear (the nearer of the 2) is looking great.
