Just built the 3 shelf "blowaway" inside the greenhouse, and put the potted on red onion seedlings in it, still getting minus temps in there so that extra bit of protection will help start the hardening off process.

Its the start of Fruits week on the VC gardening calendar and my mind was on Mangetout.
The old chicken run is still surrounded by wire netting - perfect for peas. I dug a trench on 2 sides. Then pulled up some white comfrey plants, chopped off the roots and shredded the leaves into the trenches.
Handfuls of saved Bijou MT peas were chucked/evenly spaced out (delete as appropriate) on top of the comfrey and the soil was raked over them and stamped upon.
Bits of broken corrugated plastic were laid on top, weighted down with stones, and, closing the chicken run gate behind me, I walked away, happy with my days work.

Today I planted them out. Some in the greenhouse.

And some outside. I've used spent sawdust from my gerbil cage as a mulch.

Today I have sown my tromboncinos and some malabar spinach! I've also ordered more seed trays - this time I'm trying a company on fleabay - ten trays and ten module inserts for just over 20 quid. I really need to stop spending now LOL

Today I started chitting some peas and broad beans. I made up a few dozen paper pots ready to pop them in when they wake up : D
I have started:
Bijou mangetout (new to me)
Carouby de Maussane mangetout
Champion of England tall pea
Charmette (early dwarf petite pois)
Golden Sweet mangetout
Rosakrone pea (new to me)
Shiraz mangetout (new to me)
Something from lidl that has 2 completely different
names on the packet, and some Bachelor's Bigga peas just to keep things interesting
Crimson flowered broad bean

A proper session at the allotment yesterday.
Got my bog garden sorted! Finished digging it out, lined it with cheap damp-proof membrane, pierced it a few times, put down a layer of gravel, and then filled it with a mix of leafmould and topsoil. I'll let it settle for a week or two and then start planting it.
Pruned my cherry tree, and the 'wildlife' tree (unknown variety).
Finished washing the polytunnel, it's all sparkly and new now.
Raked over one of the raised beds and sowed a row of spinach and a row of radishes under cloches.
Lopped a few saplings that were growing at the side of the plot.
Cut down some of last year's raspberry canes to use as pea sticks.
Composted a load of stuff.He-Pep!

They ought to start sprouting in about 6 weeks. I'll plant up two as they are and if one of them sprouts more than once I'll separate them and plant them individually.

I've seen a few videos about growing them on YouTube and they've made it look easy. I might grow them in the greenhouse.
