  • I had a full day of day-drinking yesterday, so figured I best not drive anywhere today. So, spent the day potting up stuff in modules, readied the greenhouse for tomatoes with bags for life filled with home made compost, rotted horse manure and compost.
Sowed all the beans, sugarsnap peas, squashes, courgettes, pumpkins, patty pans... and weeded everything in the back garden. I probably burnt a little too lol

    • Shuffled pots and gawped at how much needed to be done. Finally after one or two tea breaks between the gawping and thinking. Hoed 2.5 beds in the veg patch, rescued the garlic and onions from the tufts of grass and scraped and swept most of the veg patch path. Soaked the rest of the dwarf potted peaches. Feel much better now the garden is starting to lose its neglected look coating.

      • Helped a mate pot up some new toms as his ones from his window sill at home were hoplessly spindly.

Cut down 4 trees and chopped everything into manageable size bits

        • Came back mid afternoon from a few days up north. Ran to greenhouse to save my plants. Courgettes and peas a bit wilty but not dead. Thank god I left all my tomatoes in the house it was 46 degrees in my greenhouse. Am risking leaving my tomatoes and cucumbers overnight in the greenhouse. Forecast is for 12 degrees overnight.

          • Turfed the 4 Courgette plants out of the GH and planted them in the garden. They have 2 chances and I've sown more as a back-up.
Planted 12 Elsanta strawberry plants in the supermarket shopping trolley.
Planted out some poppy seedlings from the Lucky Dip jar chosen by Bramble.
Planted some Apple mint cuttings around an Apple tree - that should help me remember what they are.
Weeded Bed 20, which is mostly flowers and shrubs and is shaded by a big oak tree, although there aren't many leaves on it yet.
            Had a sunshiny day.

              • I attacked a large but spindly flowering currant yesterday and today I shredded the branches. My wee electric shredder did it’s best.
I potted up some tomatoes as I’m going away for a couple of days to celebrate retirement and I don’t want them to die in the nice heat we’re having. Bigger pots hopefully mean daily watering won’t be required. I planted out some French marigolds in the polytunnel and outside too for the same reason.
I checked the temperature in my tumbling composter and was thrilled that it’s 40 degrees. I added some more shredded PSB stems and grass clippings with some water and a handful or two of manure.
Moved the last worm bin out of polytunnel before the poor things poach.
We finished putting the wire on the chicken run. I think I’m ready to get chickens v soon.
Took brufen after a busy day!

                • Slow day, removed some primroses from their pots and replanted them under a shady tree until next autumn, when I will put them back in their pots again
Moved some poppy seedlings growing in some cracks on the floor into these now empty pots, and sowed some marigold and calendula seeds into them

                  • Reclaimed my dining room, chillies are in the tunnel.
                    Veg out again hardening off.
Sunflowers out for first time hardening off.
Planted hyssop and sage out of bed 7 into bed 4.
                    Uncovered bed 8
Weeded beds 7,8,9 & the raspberry bed.
                    Potted up some mystery chillies
Moved some other mystery chillies to little tunnel
                    Repotted orange.
Sown in raspberry bed old carrot and spring onion seeds.
                    Sown seeds.

                    • Yesterday I put quite a lot of stuff out into the greenhouse, and today I went to a car boot and bought a new hoe. I had hoped to find a sledgehammer too, but none to be found. Then I went to a wooded area with a fairly long walk around it, as I had been told there's plenty of wild garlic there. None of them to be found either, but I found lots and lots of wood anemones and bluebells which was lovely. I will go back and explore the other side of the road next time - surely wild garlic doesn't just disappear?
No other gardening done as helped a friend with a job application. Might go and sow all my runner beans once I finish my coffee

Second favour new allotmenteer....could you help me as I can't hold the sides and erect my greenhouse?

I don't really mind, but I am not the only one over there.... didn't think site rep meant free labourer

                            • Sowed runner beans, peas, finally sowed some toms, sowed a few random cucurbits that won't be id'd till they grow (if they grow), threw an 'impromptu' bbq at the plot (about 12 people turned up), had a couple of hours snoozing in the back garden / in bed then filled two garden bags with brambles and *ivy* from a neglected part of the back garden - sorry - a *particularly negelcted* part of the back garden.
                              May have an early night...
