  • On the 1st of the Month, the VC Calendar starts again

I weeded Bed 1A - and about time too, as my Bijou had been totally overwhelmed by Sticky Willie. I'm sure they'll bounce back after his unwanted attentions.
Spent most of the time putting Comfrey seed heads into the waste bin and chopping up the leaves and stalks into a great pile. Digging up the roots will be for another day.

In the GH (that's No 3 if you've seen the photos), I sowed:-
    Agastache Mexicana/Giant Mexican Hyssop
    Agastache Rugosa - Korean Mint
    Armenian Yard Long Cucumbers
    Asturian Tree Cabbage
    Anise
    Atlantis Brokali

Did my usual 1st of the month photography tour - a photo of each bed first, then a return trip round the beds to record one "highlight" - a flower, fruit, anything really to fix that plant to a time of year. (I know what I mean).

    • My day at the plot ended with two hours in A&E, when I first joined the forum, some will remember me having my head stapled after having an argument with the auto vent in my greenhouse!

Well I lost the argument today as well....no staples or stitches this time.....just glued together

        • Spent a couple of hours in the garden before rain set in this morning, pruning a prickly shrub which had grown over our fence and making a start on the leylandii we inherited, then ironing etc whilst it was raining, followed by a few happy hours on the plot . weeded about a third, and planted out sweetcorn and beans. Looked at my watch and realised it was 9pm!
I absolutely love the way my allotment occupies a different time zone to the rest of the world ;-)

              • Finally I've done it!! This has been nagging me for weeks - I roped in the OH to tie them together.

88 poles! Over a hundred bean plants - 2 per pole when I realised I may need to make another one

                • Planted out chard and perpetual spinach plants, then stuck spiky twigs all around edge of the raised bed to try and keep cats (and foxes) digging them up.

                  • Put up a tripod and planted out Blauhilde beans but got rained of before I could finish erecting the frame for Scarlet emperor and Serbian beans. Will finish those tomorrow hopefully.

                        • Had a quick break in the rain. So just run out and planted, staked & tied my last 3 sunflowers.
Do you think 41 is enough?

                          • Cleaned out the stayput ready for the toms and swept under the potting bench. Three away a good bit of plastic too!

                            • Planted out sweet corn and edible lupins. Sowed some Dwarf French beans. Ate strawberries.
                              Built another windbreak.
                              Fed and watered the allotment.
Went home, then decided I didn't have enough runner beans so ran back and put some more seeds in directly in the ground.

                              • I went and bought some compost that I got real cheap at Home bargains (although the offer on the website wasn't available in my local shop and apparently never is!). I then went home, picked up three trays of beans and squashes that wanted to be planted out, went up to the allotment and promptly had to sit in the shed for fifteen minutes as it was heaving it down.
I got everything planted out, and weeded everything. Remind me ever to leave it for two weeks again at this time of year! It took three hours just to do the weeding, cause I had to do it by hand! Thankfully weeding is easy on no dig, there was just a fair bit of it. As I pulled everything out with the roots (also very easy to do with a simply upward tug), it should reduce weeds even more for next week
