  • Gave the lawn a water.
Filled up the 40 gallon tank that feeds my polytunnel irrigation.
Tied in some more sprawling asparagus ferns.
Watered toms and cues in the tunnel, spuds and squashes in containers outside.

    • I went to weed my new greens bed. I made a frame 90cm tall and 150cm wide which is covered in enviromesh, there are no joins anywhere and they've been covered since they were planted end of may.
What did I discover? one cabbage has caterpiller damage and several are covered in those little white flies.
I had hoped the envioromesh was enough and I am not best pleased (language withheld). Could something have crawled under the edges? they are tucked in and weighed down.
Anyway after crawling about to weed I applied a spray of neem oil, further observation required.
Otherwise lots of watering, bagged up the last of my ready to use leaf mould (2 sacks) and preped the area it had sat on as a bed for more veg.

      • Some caterpillars pupate in the ground (sorry). As for the flies, I've no idea. Possibly eggs already on the plant/soil?

        • Finished digging my grape bed, dug in manure, and planted the grape.

Also planted out my replacement squash plants in the back garden. Sowed them two weeks ago; they grew really fast.

          • Still struggling with backache, so Mr Snoop helped me bring up water from the well and give everything a good dousing. Spread a bit of feed about the place and called it a day.

            • Pollinated chillies, ordered more paint brushes for more pollinating.
Fed chillies, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, aubergines, asparagus, dwarf French beans, runner beans, courgettes, squash and pumpkins.
              Strimed everywhere.

              • Finished planting out a redone area in front garden. Sparrows having fun among the plants and earth.

Weeded a very tricky skinny strip between house and boundary. Going to retry growing something but got buttercups, moss and sticks out today. Dog often carries stick home from beach and they’ve ended up gathering.

                  • Today, I checked the 'bean raised bed', tomato plant, & potato sacks mainly. One variety of bean seems to be coming along leaps & bounds, so I gently tied them to the first 'string railing' for support. The jute netting & enviromesh is arriving tomorrow to act as a proper support for them. Whatever I seem to be doing to the tomato plant, I shall be carry on doing as I haven't killed it off - yet. I have delayed pulling up the 1st early potatoes, as the flowers are still showing. So I just tied some jute string around them, to stop them from tailing on the ground. They're definitely resembling baby triffids now :O . My borage plant is now coming into flower - encourage the bees. I am all for that. The marigolds are looking very good next to the tomato plant. Must remember to dead head them though. Everything is starting to look good, so I am pleased that our little backyard is coming together. Just got to plant the carrots, spring onions, beetroot in the other raised bed, when the seed tapes arrive tomorrow. Probably this afternoon I will do some 'fantasy online garden shopping'

                    • Lots of harvesting.
                      More chilli pollinating.
                      Tidied path between tunnels.
                      Fed chilli grows.
                      Watered.
                      Went fishing.

                      • Watered everything in the greenhouse.
                        Done some weeding.
                        Dead headed the sweetpeas.
                        Pottered around for the evening.
Very enjoyable as it was a lovely sunny afternoon.

                        • Watered the hanging baskets with the blackberries in.
Topped up the compost in the JA experiment
                          Hoed the plot
Dug the weeds out of the central portion of the plot that was square meter raised beds - decided they're too small and difficult to control the encroaching couch grass
                          Drank a LOT of water

                          • Tied in and armpitted the tomatoes. I'm sure these "arms" are regrowing.
Filled a wheelie bin with brambles that were lurking in the middle of Bed 28, hidden by fuchsias and forsythia and lots of old honeysuckle. Wore 2 pairs of gloves as a bit of protection from the vicious thorns. I really had to grit my teeth each time I cut off a truss of blackberry flowers - I even apologised to them!
I cut a little tunnel into the shrubs so that I could reach the interior but digging out the bramble roots will be an impossibility.
Let the new chooks out for a short while - managed to find them all again too!!

                            • Sowed 30 or so mangetout peas in a length of gutter.
Planted out the rest of my replacement squash plants at the allotment.
                              Watered everything at the allotment.
