Finished putting the rest of the glass into my newly bought second hand cedar greenhouse. Only four replacement panes needed...

Picked up my Real Seeds delivery from the post office.

Bought a mint and a Japanese Wineberry on a whim from the garden centre.

Potted up some earth into the propagator ready to put some chili seeds in tomorrow (or more realistically Sunday).

Productive day. Nice to have the weather back in the teens today!

Cut down some raspberry canes and thinned the wispy and crossing branches out the apple trees.
Watered the GHs and spotted more tomato seedlings coming up. Who says its too cold to sow them now?
Wondered why one of the chooks was hovering outside the nestbox, reluctant to go inside!
Then a big white furry head stuck its head out of the entrance and Bess emerged. Silly dog
Did a little weeding and enjoyed the sunshine.

        coming out of hibernation.

Been down the plot to clean the greenhouse and shovel s@&*, manure.
Sometimes you just have to scratch that itch and get dirt under your finger nails.

I've pulled up almost all of the remaining carpets on the plot, with the help of a very dear, brave friend who offered to come and help. Well what a difference that made - we got so much more done than I could've hoped for! We also got all the carpets on to the van, then shifted into the skip, so a very good job done. I scavenged a couple of pallets, for a few composting bays. I reckon I will need five more.
Then went to the tip with an old mattress, swung by Wickes on the way back as they do compost for £4 for 70 litre. Bought three of them - will let you know how that turns out in terms of quality.
Wickes is right next to KFC, so it would've been rude not to pop in for a burger meal
Now I'm off for a nap!

Bought yet more seeds - I'll blame VC
            Filled the brown bin
Rescued some yacon caudices and fingers crossed as my experience with them at this stage is a bit hit and miss.
Moved some of the popped micro toms out of the airing cupboard

Sorted through my seed packets, ditched loads, put loads aside for freegling - still left with loads!
Nipped to the plot, it was bad weather, so not much I could do - pruned my redcurrant and gooseberry bushes, bit of weeding and composting, tidying etc.
Sowed some leeks and Spring onions indoors.
              He-Pep!

Fixed a hole in the polytunnle cover. Caused by flying debris.

Slept in late, then popped to plot for couple of hours. Much was waterlogged, but raised/terraced beds were drier. Weeded one bed, then decided that with debris flying I was better off at home!
Sowed some seeds in GH. Spring is definitely on the way:-)

                    weeded a smidge
                    dug a smidge
cleaned out chickens and dosed the rats
decided that was enough and spent the afternoon curled up with one of the gardening books that has been sat on the shelf waiting (a long time )for me to read it.

Still playing catch up. We finished a huge home reno and garden sort out late last year and the garden is still a bit of a tip. Hopefully by spring I’ll have everything in order...

                      Today I...

Tidied a load of stuff into the greenhouse.
Chucked some old rusted tools and dud roofing felt.
Topped up a load of existing plants with fresh compost and feed.
Tried to rescue a dead looking lavender.
Got 30 odd pots of seeds into the propagator (mainly chillis, peppers and toms, but also a few other things that have probably gone a bit early, but let’s see...)

Wanted to try and take cuttings of some rosemary and bottlebrush, but that’ll have to wait til next weekend now.

                        Today I went to plot.
Thought about putting primroses out but ground frozen still. Left them coszying in greenhouse.
                        Fed birds and sorted feeders.
                        Potted up some herbs
Retrieved someone's compost bin that had blown onto my plot. Don't know who it belongs to, but it has no contents and no lid so just put it by community shed. Hopefully owner will retrieve.
Came home as too cold to do owt else !

Stuck at home waiting for a courier so caught up *slightly* on housework He eventually arrived at 2.30pm so I then escaped up to the plot to do a few potting on jobs I'd had written on a list for past week!

Winter Aconites - potted up into a deep seed tray in fresh compost. Last year I temporarily (hah!) put them into teeny pots individually, meaning to have sorted out a permanent bed for them to go onto after they'd finished flowering. Poor mites were stuck in those strait jacket pots until last week!!! Poor things.....just as well they're tough! Got some good roots on them and a couple already showing flower bud development.

Elephant Garlic - three bulbs potted up into yet another bigger pot! Perhaps the word elephant in the name should have alerted me to the fact they grow like stink They're another I need to sort out a permanent bed for ASAP!

Checked shed - everything ok after yesterday's strong winds.

Pop back tomorrow to continue pottering
If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

Today I inspired a colleague to get started with his sowings when he saw my pics of sowing a load yesterday! And I'm updating my sowing diary

Tidied greenhouse and put broken plastic pots in recycling. Found a pot outside with one lonely self needed mizuna so that went in greenhouse as I plan on sowing some companions for it in February (wish I'd sown some for overwintering but forgot). Thought about what I will sow in the next few months and had a sort through seed packets for the ones I will do soonest. Browsed seed website for more.

Two fence panels replaced (two to go).
                                Blueberries potted up and fed.
Some cucumber and tomato seedlings moved out of the propagator.
Helped nextdoor’s nephew tidy up his garden.

                                Gosh it’s cold!
