Now THAT sounds like something I'd do

Forecast is good all week for Northumberland so I'm aiming to do a LOT of catching up with jobs...including moving lord knows how much soil out of the dilapidated ex-polytunnel beds (2 x 4ft high 30ft beds) and spreading it onto the bottom section and raking it level.

        • Sowed several varieties of herbs today.
Now in the heated propagator in the conservatory.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

            • Potted on my Mammoth onion seedlings and put some Duke of York tatties in egg boxes to chit( I had actually bought all my seed tatties, but these were a bargain).

              • Potted on some sunflowers, popped to the plot and pulled back half the tarpaulin which has done a half decent job of killing the weeds off. Laid cardboard and recovered with tarpaulin. Can’t wait to get the manure and compost on the cardboard this weekend.

                  • Sowing seeds

Managed to get a trip in to the garden centre got four bags of veg compost for half price so was happy with that, sowed beetroot seeds the Charles dowding way (3 to a cell) also sowed cauliflower peppers and lavatera seeds all in the greenhouse apart from the peppers which are in the propagator.

                    • Harvested the JA's, sieved the compost they were in, pulled the last of the sprouts and replaced them with shallots.

                      • I discovered my lima beans have actually germinated! Yay!!

And I went to Lidl and got a whole load of seeds (10 packets for £3) and two pink climbing roses - I've wanted climbing roses out in the front garden since I moved in, so finally!

                        • Moved my toms, cukes and courgis into the GH for a dose of sunshine and back in again at dusk. They looked quite tanned.
Ordered 2 lots of dwarf fruit trees and pondered where I could squeeze in 12 trees to create another mini-orchard.
Pulled up lots of wandering grass that has crept from the paths into the beds, also the dead montbretia leaves to reveal the new shoots and bluebells that fill the space.
Mooched around pretending to be busy.

                          • Onions seedlings potted on into large yoghurt pots and sowed the Leek seeds in the heated propagator, as near as I will get to gardening for the next few weeks.

                            • Had the parents over so got more done than usual.

Cut back an overhanging tree, but a lot more work to do on that. Need to buy a wood chipper too.
Failed to mow the lawn as the battery appears to have died over the winter.
                              Continued fixing up the greenhouse.
Mum pruned back the currant and berry bushes that I’ve not touched since last summer...
                              Potatoes into potato sacks.
Heater installed into my mini greenhouse, as the thermometer I installed yesterday told me it got down to 2.5 degrees overnight... (My hardening off can be of the ‘tough love’ variety)
Rhubarb planted into a large container.
A bit of potting up done for tomatoes, chilis and cucumbers.
A bit of sowing - cumin, basils, some pollinator plants, chard and borage.

                              Loving the sunshine!!

                              • I couldn't waste a gorgeous day like this by sitting indoors working on my essay. That will have to wait!

I went to the allotment and pulled up the last bits of carpet near the entrance, and realised that with recent new plotholders I had to get a move on to lay claim to the plastic greenhouse that was abandoned on the plot next door. The freshly freed up space was perfect.

I got help from two fellas that was working plots nearby and we got the greenhouse moved!

The plot now. I think I've nearly cracked it!

I then helped them shift a shed that they rescued from another abandoned plot to one of our new plotholder's plot.
