  • Potted on my tomatoes into their second last size pot.
Potted on my peppers, just Hungarisn Hot Wax and Jalapeno.
Needed to get in behind the greenhouse as there is a Chestnut tree trying it's best to grow there.
The space between the greenhouse and the wall is just 2 foot.
As the water butt is in the way, I had to empty it first.
Took a lot of buckets but finally managed it.
Chestnut sspca, ing is cut down, but only for the time being.
Couldn't get the root out as its trapped between the wall.
Lots of effort, now a bit shattered.

    • Enjoyed a few productive hours on the allotment today

Cut back nettles, thistles, elder seedlings etc & piled up to dry out in sun.

Repotted a few flowers that were pot-bound and which I'll take down to the containers in the courtyard outside my flat in a couple of weeks' time.

Sowed a few more veg seeds...

      4 x Tromboncino
      10 x Climbing Bean 'Blauhilde'
10 x Dwarf Borlotti Bean 'Splendido'
      4 x Squash 'yellow scallop'
      12 x Rainbow Chard

Tomorrow Neil is coming up to the allotment with me to see if he can pull a few of the corrugated metal sheets off the side of the ex-tunnel - if he can it means I can just get on with pulling that soil out and levelling that area for him to build his shed on sometime in the future.
If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

      • Sowed some Canadian Wonder Kidney Beans, lentils and soy beans - now the bean bed is full.

Dug over the second border of the green house. Again the bindweed roots were all under the weed control fabric and using it to wick water - no wonder they were always so healthy all the nutrients in the clay soil and any excess water from the pots all to itself.

Anyway took out all of the weed control membrane, dug out the soil - which has been under the membrane for 4 years and id basically clay as It hasn't been improved in the way the beds have been. Spread 2 bags of manure and then dug it in. Hoes and raked it a bit/ Planted out 3 toms and a chilli pepper.

Greenhouse looks a state now - canes, supports and trays strewn all over the place. Manure trapsed along the central path. A pile of bindweed root on the concrete slab to die in the heat.

        Good day at the plot.

        • Sowed some more burdock seeds, as most of the first lot failed to germinate. I pre-germinated them at home this time, so they should do better.
Dug some more of my raspberry bed. I've got 3/5 of it dug now.

          • Had yesterday free to try and get the plot sorted for summer... as i left the house though, it started spitting, and that was that, it didnt stop raining all day.
At least I got the polytunnel into shape, pulled up all the bolting Spring greens and chard, weeded both beds and dug in some manure. Decided which tomatoes will go where, but left them in their pots for now. Planted out a cucumber.
Planted a few squashes outside and cloched.
Cleared and raked over the corn bed, added some manure to that too.

              • Today, I planted up some young mint & magnolia plants in pots & placed them next to my tomato plant. I might have to ask for advice with regards to the said tomato plant, but that will be at a later date. Wrote the labels, ready for the raised bed planting tomorrow - which will be fun, as I will be 'supervising' hubby :O . Washed another pot ready for the next batch of young magnolia plants, checked the 1st earlies, which need to be topped up with the last lot compost. I also checked the 2nd earlies, which are just starting to show. I can, probably start picking the 'cut-&-come again' lettuce, which will encourage it to grow more. I decided to stop, as my back & knees were starting to protest with pain. So, now I am sitting at the PC, to try & find a suitable chair for me to use when I am pottering around in the backyard. Also, 'fantasy shopping' for plants, seeds etc

                  • Just potted on the 6 toms I have this year (instead of the usual 26). They look a little lonely so I've sown another 4

                    • No done a lot today.
Daughter and gg came to visit so that stopped the work.
Had to water everything again as the ground is so dry.
We have had a really breezy day so I had to stake up the dahlias.
Not much else to report other than the tomatoes are growing at a rate of noughts right now.
                      Have a good evening all.

                      • Yesterday I sowed a whole load of seeds that either didn't germinate, or that I want more of. Turns out that two plots means a whole lot of space to fill haha

Today I finished my essay, and then turned my attention to flowers that I wanted to re-sow because they didn't germinate or died soon after (cup and saucer plants - tricky!), or I didn't sow them to begin with. Feeling behind!

Today I ran out of compost. I will get more on Tuesday, but until then I will focus on tasks that do not involve compost lol

                        • Dug some more of my raspberry bed. Just 2 square metres to go now. Should finish it tomorrow and have time to dig in the manure and put a path down the middle (I'm going to have one row of summer and one of autumn raspberries). Might even have time to plant them.

I also doubled up on my slug protection for my beans, and some of them are getting badly eaten. Sowed a few more to replace the eaten ones, too. Hopefully it's not too late (these are beans for drying, not eating fresh).

Planted some spare onion sets in a pot to grow for spring onions, too.

                            • Put up tripod ready for runners, bought more canes for a second one as the old ones were very spindly.
My husband dug out a huge holly tree stump while I blasted aphids with a super-duper sized water pistol. A bit of general weeding and called it a day.
