  • Weeded Bed 4D.
Planted a Daucus "Black Knight" - (Thanks FEW for the seeds)
The Daikon sown 4th May is coming on a treat but no sign of the Dill - so I emptied 2 packets of out of date Dill on the bed. With luck it will become a Dill forest.
Sowed Delaway cabbage seeds in the Strip of the Day. Supposed to be a Cut and come again cabbage that's very like kale. Seeds from HSL.
Dug up some Dandelion and Dock which were Weeds of the Day.
    A Drizzly Day.

    • I planted my trench celery today, don't really know what I'm doing, but it will be an interesting challenge, not decided how I will blanch the stems, I think I will just earth up as I have read that putting paper or card round the stems encourages more slugs.

          • Yesterday -
Built a polythene wind break for my sweetcorn bed and planted out 16 sweetcorn. There was a bit of space left at the end of the bed, so I planted out a couple of Harlequin squashes there, under bell cloches.
Did some weeding in the raised beds, between the onions, broad beans and beetroot.
            Planted out about 20 leeks.
Fed my strawberries, onions and Spring onions with chicken manure pellet tea.
Watered the toms in the tunnel
Pulled up the 6' tall forest of bolting chard.
Weeded around the potatoes - remind me never to allow phacelia to go to seed on the plot again!
            He-Pep!

            • yesterday was going to be a garage day, but my pond dropped level, so it was time to pump more rainwater into it (from a waterbut, not worked out how to get it direct from the cloud yet...)

As I was therefore in the garden, I potted on some Nardo peppers into their final trough, potted on some butternut squash, fed the plants in smaller pots (need to pot them on) and moved things round in the greenhouse.

Tonight I intend to be sawing up aluminium...

              • hey ho, in fact, I shall be pond-wrangling... looks like something has been excavating behind the liner...

                • Transplanted the squash, pumpkins and sweetcorn into bed one at the plot - first things to go in so far! Bottle cloches put on the corn and smaller squash. Moved all equipment up to build bed two tomorrow (I would have done this today but the childebeasts were having none of it *sigh*)

                  sweetcorn: 28x northern extra sweet
winter squash: galeux d'eysine, golden Hubbard, Thelma Sanders, small sugar, butternut hunter, Burgess buttercup.
summer squash: 2x patty pan, courgette & trombetta de albenga (note to self...must build a climbing frame for this)
There are no gardening mistakes, only learning curves

No matter how big the job or overwhelming the task, a good dose of sheer obstinacy and bloody-mindedness should see you through

                  • Brought the little sales barrow in.
Planted out some of the stuff that didn't sell 2 pea sugar lace, 1 small sugar pumpkin, 1 squash scallop mix, 1 runner bean, 10 beetroot mix of boltardy & chioggia, 10 kale KX1, and some flowers.
                    Fed little tomatoes
Weeded mystery chillies and asparagus tubs.
A small amount of chilli pot juggling.

                    • Planted the spare climbing french beans, 2x courgettes and 2x patty pans in Morrisons flower buckets.

All the beds are now full of plants, 7 butternut squash plants have also been planted, May be overkill but I have little success with them so wherever there was a space I bunged one in.

Checked on the plants for slug damage, it’s the first year I’ve not used slug pellets and so far I haven’t seen any damage - fingers crossed it stays that way.

sorted the seed box - I keep forgetting what seeds I have and then keep on buying more 😂

                        Chucked some growmore around,
                        Watered greenhouse plants,
                        Watered the sweetcorn,
                        Filled the water butt up,
Raked, rolled, watered, seeded and composted an area to turn into lawn,
                        Moved some strawberry pots around.

                        Lovely sunset this evening!

                          • Had a wander round the garden, too wet too do much, we've had a lot of rain, water butts overflowing, everything is growing well. Greenhouse is doing well picked some more strawberries and did the tomato plants arm pits, then went round with a paint brush pollinating the chillies, just realized I have been cross pollinating the Cayennes and the Hungarian hot waxes, wonder what they will taste like lol.

                            • This afternoon, I checked the pots with herbs, tomato plant, marigolds & also the potato bags. Watered the 'bean' raised bed, as it was a little dry. Washed some pots ready for the new plants arriving. Bloomin' Postman Pat had to take them back to the depot , hopefully they'll be ok when they're delivered on Saturday. They needed to be signed for, so they couldn't be left with the 'designated neighbour' for some reason. I will just have to give them a good drink when they arrive on Saturday, ready for me to pot them up at the weekend. And typical. It's now bloomin' raining . I am now having a nice glass of wine, which is acting as my liquid painkiller

                              • Had a wonder round the garden when I got in from work a little while ago, sun blazing. Why can’t everything grow how weeds do?? Blinkers on, that can wait til the weekend! Into the greenhouse.

Watered everything that was thirsty, the toms are in them tomato planters from Wilkos which seem to be great so far, they’re a good size and all four are flowering. Will see if I get any fruit before they get reviewed ha!Finally potted my scotch bonnet up/on this afternoon into A 25cm pot. I’m not into super hot chillis yet so this is the hottest I’ve grown. Thought it was stunted (even though it was the best of 4 seedlings, only the fittest n all that) as it was so far behind all of the others but the recent warm weather has finally kicked it into gear. Still no flower buds yet. Don’t reckon I’ll see much from it this year but will be a good over wintering project as it’s looking proper vibrant now.
