  • Weeded bed 6F
Weed of the Day was Ferns/bracken. Bracken slides out of the soil easily if you grab it hard near the base. Quite satisfying too.
4 Strips sown today - Fennel Mantovano and Colossale (old seeds so a germination test really), Bronze Fennel and Feast Salad onion.
Squeezed some petunias and dwarf begonias amongst the geraniums in the hanging baskets which have survived since last year. Don't need to buy any this year.

    • I was meant to go up to the allotment to drop off the hugely heavy slabs that I picked up for free yesterday. But my boss mentioned getting a pint after work so.... lol

      • Got bed two dug, hoed, soil amended and built the frame yesterday. It took about an hour and a half. Possibly putting my root crops in there today and plan to build another bed with the remainder of the scrap wood on the plot.
Back at home, watering and pinching out the toms yesterday- think I will tie them up again today. A little weeding done and bolted raddish pulled.

        • Planted out a load of lettuce and watered everything. Peppers planted out yesterday looking quite perky despite heat and wind.

          • watered things, potted on the remaining tomatoes.

Was pleased to see the pond repair had worked.

As part of the works on Weds, I found a dragonfly nymph in the pond

            • So I managed to get the other bed in - a little squint so will whip out the corner pegs and adjust that tomorrow and throw some spuds in. Better late than never I guess!
In the bed I finished yesterday I planted 3 rows of Nantes, 2 of autumn king, 1 white gem parsnips, 2 of tender and true parsnips,2 rows of boltardy beets and 1 of those rainbow beetroot we got in the last edition (not really quite enough to do the row though).
Managed to prune the hedge over by the shed so everything's more accessible.

                • Finally finished weeding the path in front of the house.
                  Mowed the front lawn.
Showed a friend round the garden.

                  • Too wet to play in Bed 7G so I played in the Greenhouse instead.
Sowed some Gaura Lindheimeri , Gaura "The Bride" and Monarda Bergamot in Strips.
Broadcast Gourmet Salad Mix and Girty's Frilly Leaf seeds in the GH beds around the tomatoes.
                    Potted up some Tarragon cuttings.
All the waterbutts are full to overflowing - its not all bad news.

                    • Today I've prepared all the aubergine and chilli plants that are going up to the allotment open day tomorrow and the plant sale. I'm really quite surprised how well these plants have done, in my bedroom no less lol

                      • Spent a bit of time fiddling with my dripping butt in the greenhouse. Finally figured out what was wrong. It seems my ballcock is interfering with the flow of my fertiliser.

Resowed a couple of squashes that had died off - this time I sowed them direct into the bed.
                        Weeded.
Picked a few radish and some garlic scapes.

                          • Too wet to play outside, so sorted through my seed box.
Found 20+ spare packets of seed to give to a family member who’s currently 2nd on the waiting list for an allotment- all stuff I had 2 unopened packets of the same variety....
I can now close the lid

                            • Cut the grass and used the clippings to mulch the raspberries and the potatoes.

                              Tied in the tomatoes (again).

                              Watered the greenhouse (again).

                              Weeded the onion bed (again).

Showed some more carrots as a grand total of three seeds germinated from the ones I showed on 9th May.

Checked the slug beer traps. Need to buy some more beer.

                              • Bit of strimming, a few edges done until rain stopped play.
Tied up a couple of chillies and a melon.
                                Lot more chilli studying.
