Yesterday

Yesterday I did lots of sowing. I planted my garlic cloves, sweet peppers, salad leaves, tomatoes and courgettes. This is my first proper year growing so I am still learning! I have a walk in plastic greenhouse and another 4 tier shelving greenhouse. I also have some potatoes chitting...

More Pablo F1 beetroot as well as Calypso coriander and six types of lettuce (Black Seeded Simpson, Freckles, Frisee de Beauregard, Lollo Rossa, Marvel of Four Seasons, Salad Bowl).

sowed all my courgettes, pumpkins and squashes, can't help think it's just a little bit early

Sowed 25 pre-chitted peas this morning, and a few broad beans I'd chucked in the chitting pot as they were rattling about in the bottom of my bag.

Lots and lots of bedfordshire onions, one tray to grow normally and a tray of cells to harvest early as scallions

I haven't really planted anything yet...

Well except my broad beans, and a lot of onion seed (about 200 plants are up).
And some onion sets - but it's really a little early for them yet as they will bolt very quickly
And the chilies are all up now - only about 20 plants this year
And the bell peppers are up and about to get transplanted - about 30 or those (We've taken to making salted chili chips quite a bit - highly recommended)
And some early spuds are in part of the tunnel
And some kiwi seed (?) Don't ask.

What I mean to say is I haven't planted a single tomato yet. Last year it was carrying trays and trays from the house to the tunnel to overnight in the warmth - so this year I'm cutting down on that by sowing later. I'm thinking another 2 weeks at least.

Nice selection of tomatoes there, I've gone for Tamina-Suncherry-Black Cherry-Sungold-Ferline-Orkado-Orange Queen, what's the difference between Gardeners Delight and Irish Gardeners Delight

Our supposedly 'Gardener's Delight' Small but Supersweet Irish Version

This version was originally from a small seed collection in USA, labelled 'Irish Gardeners Delight'. It has definitely got smaller fruit than what we would normally expect, and we're pretty sure now that it's not really 'Gardeners' Delight' at all, being more in the style of the smaller cherry types such as 'Sweet 100'.

BUT , and it's a big 'but', the flavour is great. This is the sweetest cherry tomato we've ever tried. And the fruit, although small, are produced in huge numbers on enormously long trusses.

We weren't going to list it any more, but many visitors to the gardens pointed out that it was one of the best cherries they'd ever tasted, so we thought we ought to leave it in the catalogue! And it is now one of our most popular. Get your seed now, you won't be disappointed.

This variety slows down if we have a cool spell in late spring/early summer, but it starts growing again once temperatures rise again.

Sowed another half tray of Carrentan Leeks and a module tray of Celeriac Venetian White.
Squash- Four seeds each of Waltham Butternut, Pleine de Naples, Thai Rai Kaw Tok, Shishi Gatani and Kabocha. Also mini white pickling cucumber.

One big tray each of Savoy cabbage and red brussel sprouts.

I'm having one final go at beetroot and if they don't grow into beets I'll put them on the list with carrots as stuff I can't grow. I'm starting them in pots instead of the ground this time, and going with Charles Dowding, who says they like company, by putting 4 seeds per pot.

Also sowed a few dwarf broad beans this morning after chitting them.
