  • Another 1.2kg of blackcurrants. That's most of the picked at home now; just a few unripe stragglers left. Next is the monster bush at the allotment.

    • The first of the gooseberries. Not a good year for them sadly.

      • This was my best year for gooseberries Nicos.
Just under 11lbs from the one Bush.

        • broad beans - I only planted them as green manure over winter, so I'm quite chuffed with them.

                • Picked some more mangetout.

Picked the flower stems from my bolting Chinese cabbage. They were rather nice, actually. Tender, with a mild, sweet flavour. Quite a lot of bulk, too. It's disappointing that they bolted, but it wasn't actually a bad yield considering I only sowed them 40 days ago.

                  • First picking of garden peas. 640g pods yielding 230g nett of peas. Hopefully several kg to come - as long as the mice, squirrels and any other rodents don't find them, too busy with the strawberries may be but these are very sweet too. The rows were being ravaged by pigeons till I put the netting round them.
