greenfly problem

why is it, it never rains but it pours???
i lost most of my veg in the floods in juse so went on a planting spree, anything and everything. i planted out loads of brassicas and they were doing fine. I covered them with enviromesh to prevent pidgeon and butterfly attack and things looked to be doing really well until the other day, i took the mesh off to have a quick weed and was horrified to find lots of plants badly attacked by what look like green/white fly.

how do these blasted things get onto my plants in the first place?
i've sprayed well with an organic pesticide but some of the plants look very poorly. will they recover and how do i make sure i keep these pests off my plants in future?

Brassica whitefly. You always get them. No avoiding it/them. You can't keep them off, but try to keep on top of them, blast off with a hose perhaps

What a shame Kate & Robb. I've never had a big problem with greenfly, blackfly or whitefly. Maybe it's geographical. Where are you in the country ? I think some years are worse than others for these things. You can go for chemical control (which works) but most of us prefer to avoid, or try the organic routes, which are liable to be partially successful. I do hope you get something from your crops. It certainly hasn't been a great year in gardening terms for anybody.
