  • When to feed onions

This is the first time I have tried out autumn planted onion sets, and as I had not applied any feeding to the soil prior to planting them, the bed they are in got plenty of compost with the previous crop of cabbage, as there is a wide difference in growing dates what time of growth i.e. rate of growth, soil temperature would you recommend giving them a feed
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I usually (if I remember) give them a sprinkle of fish, blood and bone sometime in Spring. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I've not done any before either but my plan was to give em a bif of bfb when they noticeably started growing again.

A sprinkle of sulphate of potash around each plant around Mid March. It's in powder form so will take a wee while to wash in.

Wouldn't go mad fertilizing yet myself...weather can do anything yet..as AP says, I usually throw some thing like BFB or another suitable one around Feb/March..
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
