Kale Shoots

Sutt0ns are selling "Kale Shoots" seeds 500 seeds for £2.99. According to the packet they're Dwarf green Curled - although they don't look very curly to me.

They wouldn't be making things up just to get more sales would they?
The kale shoots. They've definitely had the hair straighteners out. They're not curly

Why can't these seed companies just tell it how it is. Instead of making stuff up .

Well spotted they are not curly but in regards to trade descriptions act......they ain't shoots either they are leaves

That'll be the next question I'll ask them - if they reply on FB - as well as why do you charge so much more for these than "ordinary" kale!!

I'm sure there's a rigorous selection process. Much like SAS Who Dares Wins. Only a select few seeds make it through to.... The Shoots Packet. That's why they're straight, no time for curling when you're a crack shoot....

I'm not even sure what a Kale Shoot is supposed to be!

This is the growing info:-

Pre-soak seed overnight before planting. Spread thickly over a seed tray of fine damp compost. Cover with 1-2cm of compost and water, grow in full sunlight and harvest once the first set of leaves have unfurled. Sow in succession – ready in just 4 weeks from sowing.

I've been trying to identify the kale from the photo on the seed packet and the nearest kale I can find is dwarf Siberian or maybe Asparagus kale.
However, I keep coming back to Texel Greens!!

If anyone has any ideas, please share!

Their reply:-

These Kale Shoot Seeds are picked early when the leaves are just starting to curl. If they are left to grow they will curl more. As with most young shoots they are not fully formed."

Still doesn't sound right to me!
Going to find a packet of Dwarf green curled and sow them, according to their instructions and see what happens.

I always grow dwarf green curled I don't remember any of the leaves looking like that at any stage.
I'll pay closer attention to it this year.

them leaves are defo not the dwarf curly one,as the leaves ARE curly and darker green from word go,to me they look more like a young brassica leaf,before the true ones appear.

Its hard to estimate the size of the leaves in your photos. Are they the first true leaves after the seed leaves?
