Personally I wouldn't sow carrot seeds outside now - there's too much of a risk of cold and snow, and I worry the seeds would rot before they germinate.
I wouldn't sow in a tray and transplant outside later either - I've not had any success with that in the past.

On 31st December I sowed a trough of carrots in an unheated GH - they've germinated. They were from an opened packet, originally sown 12 Oct 2017.
Go on, sow them.

They should be fine - I regularly sow carrot seeds that are more than a year old. They don't keep as long as some seeds but a couple of years is usually fine. I doubt the fact that they are pelleted will make any difference.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy
