  • Weiner Runder Kohlschwarzer Winter Radish

    Hi
It's not often I laugh out loud when I'm weeding but when I got to one of the rather neglected back beds I came across the winter radish I'd planted on July 1st.
They are enormous! I pulled up the biggest one and it weighed 1 1/2lbs!
I got the seed from Real Seeds as they said it's incredibly easy to grow, sow in July or later and pull up all winter. Having lots of soup to make to keep my insides warm on winter allotment days it sounded worth a go especially as when cooked it tasts like turnips apparently and is good in soups and stews.
Tomorrow, I'm sowing a load more.
Supposed to be ready 20-30 days from sowing and grow to the size of a tennis ball. My neglect means I've got some the size of two tennis balls!
Looks as if my winter radish are going to be very useful. I'm searching out stuff that can be left in the ground during the winter so this is deff on the list.

What a timely reminder Sue, I'd been meaning to plant these having bought a pack from Realseeds - will do so this evening!
