I've spotted a few threads about tomato varieties recently, but not one about how many plants we're all growing. Apologies if this is a repeat thread.
I was prompted to wonder about this by a book by Barbara Pleasant on how many plants to grow of assorted varieties to keep you supplied. I agreed with a lot of her recommendations and passed over the (to me) enormous number of sweetcorn plants she suggested but was brought up short by her suggestion of twelve tomato plants for two people: two early toms, two cherries, six paste toms for canning and two slicing toms.
I grow rather a lot more than this. This year I'm going for 32 for the two of us, though admittedly I'm hoping to have a surplus for friends: six assorted cherries, eight Big Daddies, four Cuor di Bue, four Pantano Romanesco, four San Marzano, four hanging toms and two Rosados de Barbastro.
How many do you grow per person?
