  • Celery

I put in 12 celery plants last year, and never really harvested much off them, a few sticks here and there. They’ve made it through the winter with a few soggy stems and leaves, so I was wondering if I cut them down would they shoot back again?

I always thought celery was an annual, if you have room to leave them, it could be worth finding out what might happen, you may get a bumper crop?

They may grow side shoots from the base but they will only be thin weedy ones. Best to start again and remember Celeryis a bog plant so loads of water needed.

Thanks both, I think I might try chopping down half and see what happens!

Its a biennial - in the 2nd year it flowers and seeds.
I've grown it from stumps of bought celery and that's what happens.
