Tried twice in a large tub. Both times it died the end of the first year. Feeble amount of fruit each first year - understandable as it was small I suppose.

Not sure what happened to the first one, the second one I tried had disappeared when I went to relocate it to a patch of the garden and found no rhubarb hust a load of white grubs. Which the resident robin really liked.

Hope you have more luck but they really like a big hole and loads of manure, which I suppose is difficult in a tub/container.

Thanks Mudsweatandtea and Kirk for bringing a bit of sanity back into this thread, the tubs I am using are 2 1/2 ft deep so hopefully enough depth for the roots, and Kevin I have not came across any flat worms for a while but not sure if using seaweed in the garden has contributed to that or not and while digging yesterday I did come across several big worms, I also have worms in the flower garden, looking good but will monitor
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Brilliant Rary - Great to hear you've got some worms again.
        So happy about that.

In my experience, having 'used and abused' the plant(s) over the years - I'm quite sure they'd outlive cockroaches after a nuclear oblivion.
I grew some rhubarb in a confined area about 1m x 0.5 m, made of sections of log roll on paving slabs, filled with soil and compost mix. The plant survived for a couple of years, then died.

Further to the above post, when I dug up my dead rhubarb, I found a lot of vine weevil larvae. Your white grubs could well be those - were they comma shaped with brown heads?

It must have been the weather, Penellype.
