Companion Planting in Containers

Am growing a shed-load of dwarf peppers indoors and thought not to waste space, I'd grow some basil in some of the pots and lettuce in the others.

Some sites say basil is fine with peppers, some say not.

Has anyone tried this sort of combination planting before?

I'm asking because I'm finding conflicting information on this. I have an RHS book showing peppers grown with basil, but other websites say it's verboten.

I grow sweet peppers in a pot with either a cordon tomato,cucumber,French marigold or petunia,all pots together so there’s marigolds evenly throughout,slug magnets. I grow the basil indoors in the kitchen. Basil grows well with tomatoes I think peppers would be fine with basil,it might even help hide the smell of the peppers from those little moths. I’d add a French marigold with them all or have some nearby to hopefully help keep aphids away,I remember tiny green aphids on outside basil here years ago. I like the way it looks by combining plants & companion planting,this is last years photo of a large pot with tomato mountain princess,two dwarf peppers,petunia & there’s a French marigold at the back,handy next to the potato leaves to keep whitefly away.
