Yes that seems like a good idea. I actually did a bit similar with the grow bags. Each plant was planted in a bottomless pot that was inserted into the grow bag. And I topped the bottomless pot up as the plants grew. Seemed to do really well. Watering was an issue though. Had to be vigilant last year with watering

I've got some of those hozelock grow bag watering reservoir for this year, so hopefully should be a lot easier to keep on top of watering

The pots i used the previous year where probably a bit too big. 50cm high maybe so I'm thinking it might of been awkward topping them up with the plants that far down

Next year when I start growing in the ground. I may even sink those pots into the beds I make. And plant my tomatoes into them. Will make it easier to change the soil if I need to later

Let us know how you get on growing them outside annie8, the only variety that I have successfully grown outside other than basket varieties was mountain magic, but that is an F1 and I am trying to avoid F1 veg.
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Will do Rary. What is the problem you have with growing them outside? Is it the shorter season up north?
