Scored some AFBs just before Easter (ASDA flower buckets.) I've asked before in ASDA and been fobbed off but I happened to arrive just as the guy was emptying the water from all the empty flower buckets and stacking them up. I asked if they keep them to reuse and he said no, they chuck them out. He added "We used to give them to customers but then we were told we weren't allowed to any more." I said "That seems like a waste, all that plastic going to landfill." He said "Do you want them?" "Yes please, if that's allowed." "Hold on, I'll just check." Disappeared, reappeared, and said "You can have them if you want them."
I haven't seen any in Morrisons for ages. Last few time I did, it was only the white translucent ones. I wasn't sure how strong they would be so didn't get them.
Both black and white buckets in Morrisons in Ross yesterday - I barely stopped myself buying any - really I don't need anymore. and so hopefully someone-else will be able to make better use of them.
That's the official price but there are normally a dozen or more in the stack. Basically 99p for however many they are getting rid of. Or maybe that's just my local store?

I don't get your point, Snadger. If the supermarkets are sending the flower buckets to landfill then surely we are doing a good thing by reusing them? Obviously it's a very bad thing that the supermarkets aren't reusing or recycling them but us stopping buying them isn't going to change that, is it?

Maybe its just me, I dunno. It just goes against the grain for me that's all. I have made a conscious effort not to buy anything in black plastic containers which can't be recycled.. Maybe if people didn't buy them and told them why, it may make them re-think there buying strategy?Every little helps. How much more expensive would brown containers be that are re-cyclable I wonder?
I don't intend standing at Morries flower department with a placard but I would certainly sign a petition against the use of black plastic if someone set one up.
