Isn't this, in part, why the newer buckets are white?

Good for Morries if they are.

Agreed. The best way to recycle is simply to re-use or re-purpose things instead of throwing them away. It’s not rocket science. Yes stop manufacturing from unrecyclable materials but no point throwing things away. Get re-using everything.

How much more expensive would brown containers be that are re-cyclable I wonder?

I don't intend standing at Morries flower department with a placard but I would certainly sign a petition against the use of black plastic if someone set one up.

It’s probably like junk food and healthy food Snadger. The healthy stuff is expensive and junk cheap. Which is why poorer families are larger and heavier (fact). If the healthy food was cheaper than the junk, we wouldn’t live in a society with a growing problem of obesity.

Grow your own, that’s the answer. And re-use and re-purpose at the same time.

Need to check but last article I read, colour is no indicator of whether something is recyclable or not.

I have to disagree with you, Rob. Healthy food can be cheaper than junk food if you're prepared to cook from scratch and not buy ready meals/takeaways.
Dried pulses, grains and seasonal fruit and vegetables are very cheap and nutritious but they take a little bit of effort to prepare. So many people these days can't be bothered to cook from scratch - or don't know how.
Growing your own is a big step in the right direction.

I have to agree with every word VC said.
It's down to people cooking their food from scratch.
Food crops can be grown cheaply and nutritious meals from them at a low cost,

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Another one in VC's camp. It is cheaper to live on a healthy diet than a bad diet.

Its the wrong foods that do the damage along with fizzy drinks and alcohol

I must be getting soft in my auld age, I'm actually agreeing with VC on this one.

One thing I would say though is, when you are retired you have plenty of time on your hands, where as a working mum or dad with kids may not have time to grow stuff and cook it.

It's not that black plastic cannot be recycled, it can. The issue is at the sorting point. The infrared cameras or lasers used to identify plastics on the conveyor belts do not register black plastics well, so they are often rejected from the belt.

I have twin boys, both in uni....one cooks from scratch- he eats so well and spends little on food really. The other one even buys microwave rice

I agree with the cooking etc but it’s fact that raw healthy product is more expensive than junk food. Google it VC. That’s the root cause of the obesity crisis in mine and some scientists opinion. If people have a budget of money, they buy the food that meets that budget regardless.

Agreed for “some products” but across the board, it’s more expensive. So if the raw product is more expensive Scarlet, it doesn’t get purchased.

I’m ganged up on this one it seems guys and the jury is out. I’m only going on personal experience to be honest as much as anything but look further into it. Laziness is definitely a factor. We try and grow everything ourselves where possible and doo cook from scratch.

                              Check out this....

                              https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/111...junk-food.html

There’s other studies on the opposite side but try and feed a family of four on the healthy and it soon adds up.

Hang on, this thread was about MFB’s. How it changed from that to recycling and me harping on about food costs. Have to laugh. sorry about that.
