Yep! We've gone from buckets to food costs.

I still disagree with you. Its a question of choice and some would rather eat processed food that's full of fats and sugars than go back to basics and putting a little effort in to preparing it.
I doubt that what I've eaten today, over 3 meals, has cost much more than £1.
Breakfast was granola, rhubarb and live yogurt.
Lunch was peanut butter sandwiches and an apple
Dinner was couscous with mixed veg and a tin of mackerel in Thai sauce (with leftovers for tomorrow).
      Not much preparation there either!

      I rest my case!!

Being fairly hoardy in nature, and considering my local Morrisons frequently failed to count and sold anywhere from 8-18 for 99p I acquired a reasonable stash some years ago. I could probably rustle up about 60 but with around 20 in use each year and my life expectancy of another 40 years, I'm only 50, do you think I have enough? Obviously I'm careful and try really hard not to split them as I'm moving them about, and reuse until they're ruined.

Does this help get back on track?

I got spooked by the "no more MFBs" reports so I have to confess I have bought some more. White ones, as that's all they had.

Last autumn I gave away some chilli plants in MFBs as I didn't have room for them indoors and they would have been killed by frost. Haven't had them back. If I keep doing that then it will deplete my stock. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Oh and I have quite a lot more plants this year than last.

I have a stash of TESCO Square Flower Buckets that I obtained from a very friendly shop assistant and use them for 22 Tomatoes in the back garden and a bed load of new potatoes in Buckets on the allotment, plus I cut some down to use in the Greenhouse. I also have a collection of Black Plastic round ones as The Co-Op used to skip them and they were happy that I found a use for them.

In terms of healthy food being cheaper or more expensive than junk food - for me it's actually that buying the raw material, the ingredients is cheaper than buying processed food.

I can easily live on a monthly food shop of £40, more so because of my extensive larder of dry ingredients and a huge amount of spices. When I have had to survive on that little, I don't buy fresh, and salmon was out of the question, but I was healthier than I had been for a long time. I didn't have the cash for all the bad stuff like too much cheese, cream etc, so my food was all cooked from scratch nd with mainly healthy ingredients. There's no way I'd want to live on processed food for the £40 per month, that's for sure.

Yes, that’s brilliant example of re-using things.

black buckets in Morrisons today, and when I counted them there were 12, in an 8 for 99p bundle - so my mean streak kicked in and .... - daresay they'll get used for something eventually :-)
