We have a small area of land available to us in Bucks, behind our canal mooring, no one knows who owns it but the only other likely owner is the golf course next door but they can't access is because of a river, so we can grow stuff there if we keep it wild and not too obvious.
Its a black clay kind of soil, with elder, hawthorns, willows, and nettles growing there, quite damp next to the river, and lots of moss.
I be dug some trenches and have some potatoes chitted ready to go, down the lane is a stables and free manure is available.
I've never grown anything before, and this is just an experiment in guerilla gardening.
Will spuds grow in clay soil ?
Should we dig in manure now or chuck some on later ?
Any tips ?
