Ahem I have new bean seeds

More suitable for hot weather but I'm going to give it a go anyway. Black eyed beans and chickpeas... Grown black eyed beans before but not in British summertime... Hmmm.

I think you also need a little patience for podding along with the good summer. They have 2 peas per pod.

This year I will be growing runners tenderstar and firestorm which is reliable.
DFB triomphe de farcy because they are pretty and also good producers.
My question is with CFBs I have seeds of carminat and blauhilde purple beans (one was free) and wonder if anyone has tried either and has any feedback please?
Last year I grew fasold which got stringy quickly and an unknown purple bean that was brilliant, bought randomly at a plant sale and just labelled ‘french bean’.

Planted Lady DI runners on my patio door sill all was going well till about 10/14 days ago then they have all started to bolt with very thin stems and very large leaves any advice what i can do with these or do i scrap them and start again ?

Not enough light.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. They'll recover quickly enough when you plant them out. Just be careful with the stems when you do, as the thin leggy ones are more brittle. You might want to tie them loosely to the cane when you plant them out, or else the wind may snap them off before they have a chance to start twining.

Can I get some advice on when I can plant out my borlotti bean seedlings. They are doing well - some up to 10cm high. Have had them in the greenhouse then recently moved to the cold frame and they have been there for nearly a week with the top staying open even at night.

No photos yet but the beans are coming on nicely.

The French climbers (Lazy Housewife & Blue Lake) are mostly up and reaching for the starts.

The Dwarf Runner beans don't look dwarf - I'll let them get an extra set of leaves then start pinching them so they bush out.

The Adzuki are leggy but are up far faster this year (soaked then propagator) than last year (sown in situ) - I'll be putting half outdoors and half in the greenhouse.

The Lupini are growing strong and healthy.

The Potato Bean is waving it's tendril all over the place. I can pop this into the pot anytime and move it outside later.

The Zombie Beans (Runner Bean Gigantes that had been moulding in a jar from the harvest 2 years ago) have given me a tray full of healthy plants (so those decrepit greenhouse frames will have achocha, trombone squash, 2 kiwi and 30 runner beans growing up them. And possibly dudi but I don't think that that is going to come)


Now all to sow are the Canadian Wonder, possibly another climber as I'm not putting the potato bean in the ground now and a bag of soya beans we got free with the mag I think.

I've grown blaihide a couple of times. It was a really good cropper for me.

My Cobra french beans are showing their heads in their bog roll tubes. I chitted and sowed the runners, but they're not up yet. However, both planting sites are ready on the plot for them, so as soon as they're ready and I have time, in they go.

Correction: Runners, which were absent on Weds, are now as tall as the Cobras sown a week before.... Over-achievers. *eyeroll*

All my broadbeans are planted. Can't believe how much they have grown in the short time they've been in the ground.
The 3 varieties of dwarf French beans are planted inside and out ( to see who does best ).
Runner beans are planted. But I have a few spare that I might have to squeeze in, if I can't find homes for them with someone else.

I would. But to be honest that might be bad advice. I have no idea what the climate differences are between here and Edinburgh, I just know there are differences.
We're are in a bit of a drought at the moment, some people are starting to run out of water. Which is just mental for this time of year. I'm loving it. He11 I'm even sunburnt already!

Well generally I guess we are drier being in the east. I have a really sheltered garden which helps too. I am tempted to go for it. Am away next weekend and they are getting really big for their wee pots. Think they are going to be triffid size
