How awful - I really feel for you. There should be plenty of time to sow more seeds particularly of cucurbits and tomatoes - I've only just sown mine and some haven't yet germinated.

There does seem to be a complete lack of respect for other people and their property in some quarters nowadays.

            Thanks everyone (((HUGS)))

Yes, I popped along to police station and reported it. I remember once reading that even if nothing is taken it's worth reporting because then the police have a record of the incident. It was actually brought up a couple of years ago at the allotment meeting in November when the pigeon folk were ranting on (as they do every year) about security etc. The council guy asked what they wanted - was it big metal fencing and a padlocked gate that only allotment holders had the key to? One of the pigeon guys said that if it was done then, personally speaking, he'd just nick the big expensive padlock off the gate!!!!!! What a moron or what?

I had one thing cheer me up this evening - a tray of 3 heritage squash I'd forgotten I'd put in the warm airing cupboard a few days ago to germinate! They just popped into my head when I was brushing my teeth and I couldn't remember if I'd taken them up to the greenhouse the other day or not. So you can imagine my joy when I opened the airing cupboard door and there they were, all poking up their (albeit anaemic!) green shoots! They're an old variety I got from the Heritage Seed Library called Chicago Warted Hubbard which, I was reading a few days ago, are supposed to be absolutely delicious in soups. I'll be keeping these precious seedlings on my living room windowsill until Neil gets the allotment like Fort Knox this weekend!

Probably! You know how bored the little ratbags get these days

It's the first time I've had a problem though since getting the allotment in February 2015 so I suppose that's not bad going, considering

                  I'm sure I will

I was feeling like I'd missed the cut-off point as regards seed sowing of tenders like tomatoes & cucumbers but, reading folks' words, has made me realise it's not necessarily so...I'll get a load sown tomorrow and they shouldn't take long to germinate and will, I'm sure, make up for lost time once it begins to warm up properly in the next few weeks

Sorry to hear of your situation. Bloody delinquents going around these days. Hopefully they can step up security at the allotment with better locks, fences, people being more vigilant etc.

It seems every allotment these days has a problem with vandals, at some point or another. Just last year we had a bunch of greenhouses smashed with stones and people nicking veg off plots. I guess kids these days have nothing better to do. What with all the government cuts and lack of infrastructure/investment to keep them occupied.

Hopefully you can get a new batch of seedlings going to replace the losses. You should still have plenty of time on your side!

                        All the best.

Sorry Gillykat. I'd be out for blood if it was me.
If you PM me your address I'll send you a few things to get you started again. I've got a few toms, courgettes and things. If that would help.

We were vandalised last year so I can sympathise, the later plants did catch up very quickly, so much, that I dont think I will bother with very early plants ever again. (except peppers and aubergines)

Plants were sown this year in mid April, they got left out for a few hours when we had the warm spell and got blown around and damaged, they are only just recovering now.
I've sown some late ones again and they are slowly catching up but they'll have a growth spurt and do fine, they will just have a shorter harvest period.
better late than never! (I don't usually use idioms)
                            Sincerely
                            Steve

All sorted but thank you SO MUCH for your offer (((HUGS))) Gardeners really ARE the loveliest people

I was up at the allotment this morning and chatting to a friend five door up and she gave me some tomato plants (Gardener's Delight) as she'd sown too many (as usual she said LOL) and once in my greenhouse I sowed some more squash (yellow patty pan) and Rainbow Chard.

Back home I've sown my Freer's Mummy Pea, La Diva cucumber, Cucamelons and also another 4 Tromboncino

I'm feeling a bit better today as I know I've still got time to sow seeds and have things grow ok......if it had been in late May I would have been REALLY snookered!!!

Good luck with your garden this year - if you are still short of a few things then keep your eye open for plant sales locally this weekend - lots of village halls and charities do them round here this time of year.
