-1 down south - protecting the spuddies

Apparently -1 on Saturday and Sunday down south - will potatoes need protection ? Some of mine are about 2-3 inches already but planted into furrows. I was thinking about filling the furrows with straw ? Is it worth the bother ?
Emergency fleece is coming out for the tomatoes and other heat lovers.
Bit of a pain really as I'm going away and will be rushing around packing with this worry on top..

They will certainly need covering up or the leaves will turn black
Typically at that height you would cover them with more soil making a higher ridge

I have tomatoes planted in the ground at the allotment and I live right out in the countryside, way away from any kind of urban heat island effect. It will definitely be getting down to freezing here.

I'll whip out the plastic cloche tomorrow and may put a plastic pot over each plant as well for additional protection. Hopefully it will work. Otherwise I am going to be replacing 6 heirloom varieties...

I put fleece over mine last night

I earthed mine up in their pots yesterday.

I won't be getting any cold nights until tomorrow night, but I'd probably better put some fleecer over my potatoes in pots. It's quite sheltered on my patio, but better safe than sorry. The growth is far too lush and luxuriant to earth up anymore (about 18").

I've covered the emerging leaves with grass cuttings.

My neighbours potatoes were blackened in the cold, if they are in the ground and poking through earth them up

Down to 2.9 in the gh last night. Glad I brought my tomatoes in.

got my heater on in the gh at night again and fleeced up tatties in pots although windy as well so a couple got exposed

I notice that some of my tomatoes are slightly curled and yellow at the top. Guess they didn’t like the cold spell earlier in the week.
