Due to the cold weather delaying planting, my first sweet corn batch in 4inch pots have got to about 18inch tall. Wondering when plant out later this week if it's ok to plant them deeper than the pot akin to tomatoes. I noticed last year they produced roots about 2inch above ground so thought that at least that was ok ? Any advice appreciated

Thank you for all the replies and good info. It had not occurred to me that earthing up was an option too. Having done some reading it seems to also help against wind and in some cases has increased yield
"Earthing-up helps to provide anchorage of the lower whorls of adventitious roots above the soil which then begin to function as absorbing roots. It also helps to brace the plants against lodging during heavy rain and wind. "
So I will try planting deeper and earth up when they have settled in a bit

It’s difficult earthing up if the blocks in a corner,it’s easier to be able to walk around the whole block, same with weeding. A straw mulch is good for corn stopping the need for any weeding but earthing ups a bit difficult with straw everywhere, depending how many plants you haveLocation : Essex
