  • Soil ?

I have a veg patch on heavy clay backing on to a small river that runs through rural farmland, I've got two questions..

    1. Is river mud a good soil for root veg crops to improve the clay soil ? ( We have plenty of it. )

    2. I have been warned about liver fluke in watercress from river water but am I OK to use river water to water my other crops ?

^^^ yep - though I'm not a professional so no guarantees - but for non water based plants I really don't think its an issue

Liver fluke parasites live in water snails, so won't live for long in soil. They are also killed by any cooking, so are only a risk with foods eaten raw.

I live next to a small river and we use the water on our garden all the time. We even pumped the water into our domestic system last year when our spring pipe blocked and used it for cooking and showering in - never did us any harm
