Transplanting sweetcorn

In my eagerness to sow seeds, I sowed my sweetcorn at the same time as other plants. I've since potted them up and they're now reaching 12-16" above the level of the pot. We're still not past the frost date for West Midlands (3rd week of May) so I'm ambivalent about transplanting them outdoors.

Do I just take the risk?

Can you fleece them or erect a cloche over them?

Plant some out and leave some in, that way if you do get a frost you still have some as back up. Sooner or later they need to stand on their own feet.

Go for it...should be able to cope with a slight frost now

I'd be planting them out now, otherwise they'll get stunted anyway by being pot bound - be careful with the roots as they are quite brittle.

I was in the same boat last weekend and just planted them out, they seem fine. Looking at weather you should be ok if the weather forecast is any good

On another note I have just put my second planting in pots outside, just coming through, as last year the second planting virtually caught the first up being inside as they grow to maturity using growing degree days over 10c rather than sunlight hours
