How many Courgettes, squashes and cucumbers have you picked in 2019
Picked my first two today - yay!! They were small, only about 7cm, but it appears to be good practice to pick the first ones early.
They are a yellow variety, Atena Polka, two plants sown 21 April on windowsill, planted out on 13 May. Lots more coming on so we'll see how they get on. Bees are very bzzzy.
Still no courgettes. For the second year in a row, my plants haven't been producing any male flowers, so that means the females don't pollinate. I think it's the variety; I never had this problem until I started growing Tuscany.
I've ordered some seeds of Defender, and I'm going to try for a late crop.
I just have some buds on my courgette, so fruit are a way off.
However.....my first ever attempt at cucumber growing, Delistar, five so far and very tasty too. I never use all of a big one so these minis are great.
When I told him indoors that I had put in a cucumber plant he said he didn't like cucumber much; I told him he'd definately like MY cucumbers. And indeed he does
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.
Cucs 4+3=7 with 3 almost there, first of the cucumber sandwiches planned for the weekend with some raspberry and rum cocktails. (time to move on from the strawberries...)
Squash 1... have another trombo and 2 red onion squash just waiting for the secateurs
Courgettes 7- will soon be picking half a dozen or so shooting stars they are at that baby size that you pay a premium for, also the grillers are doing very well.
