Whew, green house planted up.

Took a couple of days 8x6 GH.
First removed tables and then dismantled benchs. All stored in shed till next year.
6 growbags installed. I hate having to plump them up and break up the compressed compost. Really hard work. Its a bit easier as I sit on a little 3 leg stool. It was my Grandmas, I think it was a milking stool.
Anyway 6 growbags thus ...
2 mini munch
3 large sweet peppers
4 growbags with 12 assorted tomatoes.
Only thing left to do is remove bubble wrap from roof and tie up the plants.
I have a loft anti frost heater which works but has no thermostat, so its on permanently. I use a seperate thermostat set at 13 deg C

Next is outside growbags and then all the border plants need to go in.
Work work work.

That's a lot of plants in a 6x8! Or maybe not - my first greenhouse year.

I had planned one of each:
Suttons grafted Gardener's Delight, Orange Paruche, Shirley, cucumber Delistar;
sown-by-me Sungold and Red Alert;
mail order tomatoes Black Russian, Czech Bush, chillies Filius Blue and Costeno Amarillo, Pepper King of the North and Snack Pepper, all from tomatoes-plants-direct (though yet to arrive)

I think this adds up to six plants fewer than your greenhouse of the same size. Am I under selling the space?!!

It's my first year with a greenhouse too so i'm filling it up with as much as possible!!! I figured i can always dig some up later if they get too crowded! We live and learn...

So far, I'm loving my greenhouse. Nice cosy place to pot things up and potter around with plants. Fab!

I fill mine to the brim too. I'm taking a load of plants out of mine tomorrow and filling it with tomatoes and chillis tomorrow. Mine has a natural draft through it so I'm not too worried about it getting too hot or damp either, so I'm cramming it in!

Tomatoes need room to grow and enough light between plants for the toms to ripen. You also need decent airflow - Botrytis can be devastating if you get it!

I leave a minimum of 18 inch between tomato plants and that's pushing it.

The GH can blow out if it's not all shut up on a windy day.

I have two Quadgrows, so the spacing for eight of the plants is predetermined. Interesting point about getting light onto the tomatoes Scarlet.

Hmm, they probably don't need light on the fruit...but toms that are crowded don't get enough sunlight to grow well. Same as when you pile a load of pots close together...the plants stretch up for the light.

I've done my fair share of sticking extra toms in the row - and it's never been successful.

Well I put 3 toms or 3 peppers in a grow bag and 2 cucumbers. The picture shows 3 cucumbers which is an error, will correct at some point.
The 8x6 comfortably fits 6 grow bags as shown. I also squeeze in a couple of pots between the two vertical GBs.
The GH is 45 years old and has from the start had a self opening top window. I still works after all these years.
Last year I fitted a louvre vent in the end for added ventilation. I should note that this cost more then the original GH.
In summer I usually run with the door permanatly open unless there are gales about.
