We should be getting ready to harvest autumn sown garlic but...
In bed 1, the hardnecks seem generally ok and they are producing fat bulbs. The softnecks are looking happy too but I dug one up and they have hardly fattened up why is this and is there anything I can do at this point? I was hoping to be the queen of garlic
In bed 2 which is a few metres away I have more autumn sown garlic. The left side of the bed looks strong and happy but I can't see any fat bulbs so I suspect they are the same as bed 1. The garlic on the right side has allium leaf miner so are dying I have started digging them up.
All I can think of is that it has been a relatively dry winter and spring as the soil in bed 2 cracked and I couldn't water until April (that's when the taps get turned on).
Any advise on how I can save the crop, or am I doomed to skinny garlic this year? Can I still save them by watering?
Thank you
