Calculating fertiliser rates

The handful is one of the measures I think we should adopt for a small volume. The big volume being the Olympic sized swimming pool. Long things are measured in double decker buses or football pitches, tall things by the Nelson's Column, heavy things by the elephant ....

Small areas table tennis table, medium tennis court, football pitch. Large areas an Isle of wight, a Wales (half a Wales is a Belgium).

I've never been able to relate to the size of a football pitch - or a tennis court.
However, I do know the length of an aisle in the supermarket, although the aisles at the furthest end of the shop are longer than the ones at the start.
