  • Orange banana tomato

Can anyone who grows orange banana tomatoes let me know-if the leaves often Carl at the top. Seem healthy enough apart from that. Also see it a bit in the black icicles which seem to be getting bigger by the second and are taking over the gh.

If you mean that Carl is hanging out on leaves that are curling at the top, that's not unusual for any tomato that I've grown to be honest. I think it might be a sign of under watering on my part, but I'm not sure if that is universal.

I have no idea what you mean about black icicles... lol Photos?

Black Icicle is a tomato with droopy leaves - it always looks like it needs water.

If i remember correctly orange banana is a potato leaf ?, may be wrong but a lot of those types (potato leaf) look really straggly when growing.
If you simply mean the top leaves though, yes. Their a hot weather plant but the heat in a greenhouse, even in this country can make the strongest of us wilt a touch

Both orange banana and black icicle have droopy foliage. They can look "sick". Ignore that! Give them plenty of water as they are both thirsty varieties - both are big plants.
Orange banana can get blossom end rot if grown in a pot as they need regular watering.
Both worth growing as they are fab tomatoes - two of my favourites

              Thanks.

Scarlet - thought they were just the droopy type. They are from the seeds you gave me. I think they are ok but am keeping them watered and fed. They are bucket sized pots.
Loads of trusses and flowers but not much in them way of flowers yet.

So different from the Black Russians you gave me. They are very squat and sturdy plants.

Orange banana doesn't do well too well in pots - They need lots of water often. I find Black Russian the same to be honest , all big thirsty plants

Wow they look amazing. Am much further behind as the orange bananas, black icicle, green grape, Black Russian and white zebra were planted in March later than the rest of my tomatoes. Most of them have lots of trusses and flowers and the start of tomatoes on their first truss. I have got a few smallish tomatoes though including on the Black Russians.

                    These were started March 18th...

I always start a few "Bush" toms early but my main sowing is March.

First week in March...I sowed one batch beginning and another a couple of weeks later - I also sow some early ones but I find first few days of March works for me.

This one has set 5 trusses and has now reached the the roof.
