I noticed today that probably about three-quarters of my runner bean flowers are being shredded by something, most even before they open. The highest ones seem worst affected.
I thought maybe it was birds, but the runner beans on neighbouring plots seem unaffected, so I'm at a bit of a loss. Unless maybe the 5 foot bay bush next to the beans is encouraging the birds by giving them somewhere to hide.
Maybe I should just net the whole lot? I'm growing them for dry beans, anyway, so it's not like I need access.
